local restaurants

Post by mii »

To deal with the depression kicking my butt I've been taking time to make myself go wandering around to see what's nearby. I've found a few pretty cool places so far.

- a tiny hole in the wall Thai place that's probably the best Thai food I've ever had just a block away
- endless numbers of Indian/Pakistani restaurants (I feel like I'm in London LOL)
- Jamaican-run ramen shop
- tiny boba bar that does Chinese sweets and snacks
- craft beer place a couple blocks down in a basement
- coffee shop that does live events near work

What's some other interesting stuff around where you guys live?

OH nice! that's a good spread there. Does the Jamaican run Ramen shop do any sort of fusion or go authentic? Jealous about the good Thai. We had one we loved, but they were struggling with rats and Hilary can't stomach going anymore. ^^; There's another one up the block everyone says is great that we still need to try.

Where I am now is like a walkable city for the first time in my life and I'm so spoiled. There's so much food everywhere. I'm OBSESSED with our vegan bakery. They do stupid good sandwiches. Lots of cute coffee shops. There's a Yemeni coffee shop opening very soon.

I haven't been to eat, but it looks like the Jamaican place is authentic ramen. I'm curious if the menu has some interesting side options (rice and peas, or patties, or something else). It seems to be very well regarded in the neighbourhood - every time I've gone by there's people waiting outside.

It's very walkable here as well which has made exploring fun. I can actually get places easily and there's just so many more actual places to see on the way that going is still enjoyable. I found the fresh egg shop before, but there's also a Middle Eastern spice shop and a place that seems to be a Vietnamese/Singaporeaon fusion place (nasi goreng and bahn mi were highlights on the menu board as I passed by). At first I wasn't impressed with the closest Indian restaurant (very Japanese palate-oriented so dull options) but then I saw they had sukuti on the menu so now I am curious if I can beg more Nepalese dishes out of them.

I've been hoping to find a nice cute coffee shop but that seems to be the one thing that isn't big in this area. There's a coffee shop down the block but it seems to have a more restaurant-feel than coffee shop feel so I'm not sure yet- haven't been able to go. Stuck in the zone of not having much money till payday, boo.

The Yemeni coffee shop sounds awesome. Please update when you are able to go!
