Holiday Eats Thread!

From now until New Years, let's talk about what we're making and eating!
I expect for the next few days people will be in leftovers mode though... I still have lots of chicken from my roasting adventure left.
In the next couple days I'm going to make soup from the leftover bones/carcass. I'm VERY EXCITED.

Man, I don't eat meat but my mom used to make turkey soup out of the thanksgiving scraps and I loved that more than the turkey itself. Nostalgic.
For Christmas I made lentil soup and a 7 layer cranberry hat recipe by Claire Saffitz!
I had a crisis with the bars because I added 8oz of butter instead of 8tbsp. Lmao I managed to minimize the damage and it still turned out good.
My friends in Austin would do gumbo on New Year's Day and I wanna continue that tradition but wrangling the recipe out of him hasn't been successful. YET.

Honestly, the leftovers from the bird are always the highlight for me. Soup and sandwiches for days!
New Year's gumbo would slap so hard. I wish you luck (and a crowbar) to pry out the recipe in time.
I'm not really sure what I want to do for New Year's this year... the norm is noodles but I'm just not feeling it right now. Maybe that will change the closer it comes.

I know what you meant, but the mental image of a 7-layer cranberry hat is too good to not comment on.

We did stuffed Cornish hens that we picked up at Central Market! I made a broth out of the remains, will see how it tastes when I make something that needs some broth. I was kind of tired of turkey as we had it for Thanksgiving and since hubby has started dialysis, that's one of the foods he craved/could keep down so we'd been having turkey and stuffing things since October!

When I got sick right between my birthday and Christmas, my mom made the most incredible potato soup that I lived on for a week straight. I miss it.

I got two pots of broth out of my chicken bits. I'm going to freeze half of it and make soup with the rest. Chicken noodle soup for days!

Besides cabbage, what else do you put in your cabbage soup?
